Art
The Visual Arts are accessible to all and allow all students to succeed. We believe every student should be able to produce artwork that is individual to them and we seek to encourage this creative practice be encouraging our students to work to their strengths. Our Art Department is a vibrant, stimulating learning environment and we work hard to ensure that 'everybody can be somebody'. The department is housed in newly refurbished rooms.
Art is studied by all students in years 7, 8 and 9. Students have a 1 hour lesson per week. During Key Stage 3 we teach projects to suit the needs of our students and strengths of our teachers. These projects are the building blocks of visual literacy and will secure a foundation of knowledge within our students while encouraging them to be creative learners. During Key Stage 3 students participate in a range of practical activities that encourage autonomy, risk taking, thinking skills and a love of the subject.
At Key Stage 4, we aim to offer a broad range of skills by offering an unendorsed GCSE in Art and Design exam board OCR. The courses allow students to follow a pathway that is appropriate to their skills and interests. Students are encouraged to be evaluative and to work co-operatively. We believe strongly in the benefit of working with students to enable them to achieve their potential. Visual Arts courses are taught by skilled, specialist teachers who have high expectations for their students.
Art is also popular at A Level. Art is a popular after school activity. GCSE students enhance their coursework and younger students enjoy different activities in Art Club. We also make regular visits to local and London Galleries where we see others work.
