Drama
There are many different activities pupils can get involved with in Wolverley Drama Department.
KS3 Drama
Every pupil studies drama for one lesson a week during KS3 (year 7, 8 and 9), which involves learning how to use drama strategies, exploring themes and issues and working with and acting from scripts. Year 7 undertake schemes of work based upon: bullying, "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe" a haunted house, story telling and Mask work. During year 8 pupils study topics such as: story telling through the story of Joseph, Greek Theatre, the Holocaust, script work and Shakespeare's stories. Year 9 topics include: Joy riding, theatre genres, Shakespeare's theatre, group performance project and technical theatre.
GCSE Drama
Pupils can choose to study Drama GCSE as an option in year 10 and 11, where they explore a range of themes and issues using drama strategies, explore several play texts and participate in a performance to an examiner.
AS and A2 Drama and Theatre Studies
Pupils can continue their studies to AS and A2 Level by choosing Drama and Theatre Studies is an option in year 12. The course involves studying play texts, performing a scripted piece to a visiting examiner, devising a performance as a group and completing a written exam from the point of view of a director.
Extra Curricular Drama
There are many opportunities for pupils to participate in drama out of lessons.
Theatre Trips - there are regular theatre trips, to not only local theatres, but also the West End in London.
KS3 Drama Club - pupils can join a drama club specifically for KS3 pupils, which includes theatre games, improvised and scripted drama.
Musical Theatre Club - this is open to all year groups and includes working towards performances of extracts from shows such as "Grease" and "High School Musical".
Stars - a drama club run by 6th formers for any pupils interested in drama. Each year Stars rehearses and performs a show which is performed in the hall. The production this academic year is "Little Shop of Horrors".
Arts Award - pupils can take the Bronze, Silver or Gold Awards which are nationally recognised qualifications in the Arts. Pupils can study just in drama for the award, or in other art forms as well.
School shows - pupils have the opportunity to audition for various staff directed school shows at different time during the year.
