Maths
Key Stage 3
Students will be placed into teaching groups based upon their prior experience and attainment. Each group will follow a course which has been differentiated to encourage individuals to progress. The scheme of work intends to develop the range of skills and concepts from the National Curriculum, encouraging students to explore mathematical ideas. At the end of Key Stage 3, students will be entered for the SAT at the appropriate level. Students are also entered for the UK Maths Team Challenge in years 8 and 9.
Key Stage 4
Students follow a modular course which has been designed to build upon students earlier achievements. The syllabus is OCR Graduated Assessment and students will sit 3 module exams which count for 50% of their final grade. The final level of entry will be Foundation (grades G-C) or Higher (grades D-A*).
Key Stage 5
Students have a variety of choices in the 6th form.
A level Mathematics is a popular subject and we study the OCR MEI syllabus. The AS consists of 3 modules in Year 12, two of which are core units (C1 and C2). Topics studied include further Algebra, Co-ordinate Geometry and Trigonometry. A statistics applied unit (S1) is also studied and develops the ability to study and analyse single variable data. A further 3 modules are studied in year 13 for A2. These are two more core units (C3 and C4) as well as Decision Maths (D1).
Students can also retake their GCSE in order to improve their grade or can continue to develop their skills through courses such as Key Skills or ALAN (Adult Literacy and Numeracy).
