Every pupil studies PE for three lessons a fortnight. They cover a range of individual activities and games.  Pupils work on a range of things including; personal skill development, team work and communication, confidence, officiating and coaching and performance.  We encourage all pupils to be actively involved in lessons and try to ensure an active lifestyle for the future.  All pupils also complete fitness testing every term which is reported on to parents.

 

KS4 Core PE

 

Each pupil studies PE for four lessons a fortnight.  They complete a programme which allows for variety at year 10 and in Year 11 they choose which activities they are interested in.  These options include aerobics, football and Skiing.

 

GCSE PE

 

Pupils can choose to study PE GCSE as an option in year 10 and 11, where they learn about a range of theory including, anatomy and physiology, sports injuries, diet and nutrition and methods and training.  They also are assessed in 4 different sports and participate in a performance to an examiner.

 

GCSE PE - SPORT EXTRA

 

Pupils can choose to take PE as a double option.  They still take GCSE PE but also complete the Junior Sports Leaders Award in Year 10 which is an introduction to coaching and complete BTEC certificate in Sport in year 11 which is the equivalent of 2 GCSEs.

 

AS and A2 PE - 2 YEAR COURSE

 

Pupils can continue their studies to AS and A2 Level by choosing physical education as an option in year 12. The course involves studying anatomy and physiology, acquiring movement skills, socio-cultural studies and practical skills in year 12.
In Year 13 they study a 2 further units covering Historical Studies in PE, Sports Psychology, Exercise and Sport Physiology and the improvement of effective performance and the critical evaluation of practical activities in physical education. Either performing, coaching or officiating.

 

BTEC FIRST DIPLOMA IN SPORT - 1 YEAR COURSE

 

This is worth 4 GCSEs and students have the opportunity to complete assignments on Body in Sport, Health, Safety and Injury, Practical Sport, the Sports Industry and Preparation for Sport.

 

 

Extra Curricular PE

 

There are many opportunities for pupils to participate in PE out of lessons. As a department we strive to give the opportunity for every pupil to achieve their potential in sport through offering a range of clubs that are both fun and challenging.

 

Recreation Clubs - clubs purely to develop skills through enjoyment and to promote active participation.

 

Multi-gym, aerobics, boxing, badminton, cricket nets, trampolining, skiing

 

Competitive Clubs - clubs that allow for the able sports player to play fixtures against other schools whilst developing their skills.

 

Fixtures -  both boys and girls have the opportunity to play for the school team in football, trampolining, cricket, rugby, netball, badminton, rounders, athletics, basketball and hockey.

 

Reward Trips - there are regular reward trips for team players and pupils that are committed to PE clubs. 
Trips include, bowling, rock climbing and Alton Towers.
